LUCAS MARTIN

BIO

Lucas Martin is an Iowa-based artist whose innovative fiber art practice centers on sustainability, transformation, and material storytelling. Known for using upcycled materials, Martin reimagines discarded textiles, fabric, and thread into richly textured works that reflect ecological awareness and artistic ingenuity. Inspired by nature's rhythms and everyday life's nuances, his art challenges conventional notions of value, beauty, and permanence in the creative process.

Martin is developing a new body of knitted work for the FOE September traveling exhibition, highlighting the expressive potential of upcycled materials. The exhibition will showcase a range of works—from intimate, handcrafted pieces to immersive large-scale installations—celebrating the intersection of environmental consciousness and artistic expression. Through his practice, Martin elevates overlooked materials and invites viewers to engage with themes of renewal, resilience, and the transformative power of making.
