2025 EXHIBITION
SEPTEMBER 16 | FOE OPENING AT CURATE
Freedom of Expression (FOE) 2025 brought together 13 Iowa-based artists of all abilities in a bold, multidisciplinary exhibition centered on access, identity, and creative autonomy. Supported by the Greater Des Moines Public Art Foundation, FOE transformed spaces across Des Moines through exhibitions, installations, performance, fashion, storytelling, and community-centered programming.
From the opening celebration at Curate to programming throughout the city, the response to FOE 2025 was deeply moving. Artists, families, advocates, and community members showed up in powerful ways to support the work and celebrate the importance of accessible, community-centered creative spaces.
The exhibition featured immersive installations, painting, sculpture, performance, adaptive fashion, live music, ASL interpretation, interactive experiences, and collaborative public events — all rooted in the belief that creative spaces should be built for everyone.
Most importantly, FOE celebrated the artists: their voices, perspectives, creativity, and leadership.
